Pear Garden

Pear Garden is a 2D animated film by Shadab Shayegan, produced at the Animationsinstitut at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2024. I was part of the animation team.

Synopsis:

Six-year-old Lily visits her grandma, who underwent a mastectomy and lost her breasts, in her grandma’s pear garden. Lily is confused by her grandma's changed appearance upon arrival. At night, she discovers that her grandma's shadow still has breasts. Lily follows the shadow as it leaves through the window while her grandma is sleeping, guided by her own shadow. On her journey, she finds a tree with breast-like fruits and thinks she has found replacements. Lily picks two, but upon returning, they turn out to be pears. Disappointed, she throws them away, causing them to break. By observing the broken pears, finally she finds a solution; Lily takes the seeds and places them on her sleeping grandma's scars, hoping they'll grow into breasts.
